The problem

One hour every week just to know what stage each ticker was in

The Money Flow Trading System works. But staging 133+ tickers by hand before you can even start selecting trades is the kind of friction that kills consistency.

1

Open charts for each ticker

Pull up TradingView for ticker one. Check price structure, moving averages, volume behavior. Build a mental picture of where it sits in the cycle.

2

Identify the Money Flow stage

Apply Gerald Peters' framework manually. Is this Stage 1 accumulation, Stage 2 markup, Stage 3 distribution, or Stage 4 markdown? Each call requires real chart judgment.

3

Select the stage for each ticker

Record the stage assignment. Update whatever tracking system you're using. One ticker at a time.

4

Enter each ticker into its stage group

Move the ticker to the correct bucket in your watchlist. Stage 1 column. Stage 2 column. Stage 3. Stage 4. Manual drag-and-drop, copy-paste, row by row.

5

Repeat for all 133+ tickers

Do the same thing 133 times. By the time you finish, an hour is gone. The watchlist is ready but you haven't selected a single trade yet.

The 4 Money Flow Stages

Gerald Peters' framework maps where a stock is in its price cycle. Every ticker in the watchlist gets assigned one of these four stages automatically.

1
Accumulation

Price consolidating near lows. Smart money building positions quietly before the next move up.

2
Markup

Price trending up with expanding volume. The stage where most trading opportunities appear.

3
Distribution

Price topping out. Volume erratic. Smart money selling into strength while retail buys.

4
Markdown

Price trending down. Stage to avoid on the long side. Can be opportunity for puts.

The build

What I learned building it

Three honest cards from the build — what I started with, what changed, and where it goes next.

What I started with

A weekly ritual that was eating an hour before the real work even started

I was doing the same manual analysis for 133+ tickers every week. Same charts, same framework, same staging. When I realized I'd done the exact same thing 50+ times, the question wasn't whether to automate it — it was why I hadn't already. Built the first version in Google Sheets with Apps Script in an afternoon.

What changed

The analysis got faster and the decisions got better

Removing the staging work didn't just save time — it raised the quality of what came after. When you spend zero time on organization, all your energy goes to trade selection. The watchlist is the same size, but the signal is clearer because you get there faster and fresher. That was the outcome I didn't fully anticipate.

What's next

Stage transition detection and options watchlist integration

Current version shows what stage a ticker is in today. What matters more is when it changes. Next version flags every Stage 1 to Stage 2 transition — those are the setups. Eventually it cross-references the options watchlist so the output becomes a direct action list, not just an organized view.
